Using iMovie would be great as one of the kids final products instead of the typical powerpoint, poster, writing document, etc... It's fun and engaging for the kids and I think the kids would be more motivated to do the learning if they were able to use this app.
Topic: Retelling, Sequence
LO: I can tell about what the story was about. I can tell the order of events of a story.
After reading a fictional book of their choice, students will write a retelling of the text. They will include major events, events in sequential order, and the elements of a story.
Once approved by the teacher, the student will use iMovie to create a trailer for their book. The student will imagine they are the movie director and will put together a trailer of their book as if it were coming to The Big Screen.
Once completed, students will share their iMovie with their classmates.
Students will also show their trailers to a class of their choice and get feedback. Classmates will tell the student if this trailer gave them a idea of what the story was about and if they would watch the movie if it were to come out.
I thinnk that this would be a fun activity for kids! what a cool way to test fro retention and comprehension on a story. You will easily be able to tell just who did or did not read their assignment and how ell they actually understood what they read. This is a powerful tool in regards to where kids are in their reading journey.
ReplyDeleteMy only suggestion would be to maybe partner kids up for this activity. Perhaps a weaker reader with a stronger one. Then, they could have a bit of assistance with their comprehension or lack of in the creation of their trailer. Or, somply for the benefit of assisting each other in filling in the gaps. We all have times when one of us misses something that someone else catches. Partner work would help in this area.
Great lesson. The kids will love it.
